After last
weeks disappointing wash-out, Ashby were looking to confirm winning Division 2
of the
Following
recent toss losses, Ashby won the toss, and elected to bowl with the new ball,
in damp and favourable conditions.
Yoxall
started steadily, and kept Ashby’s bowlers at bay for the first 5 overs as the
score crept into double figures, before Gary Edwards bowled opener Whittaker
with the score on just 14. Thereafter Yoxall’s inexperience showed as Gary
Edwards, and Graham Derbyshire ripped through the Yoxall batting, leaving
Yoxall on 19-5. Yoxall then had a mini recovery, with some strong hitting from
P.Mason 17 n.o., and captain D.Lester 13, moving Yoxall onto 51, before Lester
fell to Gary Edwards for 13. Then the tail-enders were bowled out without
adding to the score, as Yoxall were all out for just 51 in 13 overs. Gary
Edwards finished with a very impressive 6-19 from his 7 overs, and Graham
Derbyshire 2-31 from his 6 overs, with all Yoxall’s batsmen being out clean
bowled.
Ashby then
sensed that the league title was theirs for the taking, as they set out to bat.
However, Ashby made the worse start, as Tommy Colver was dismissed with the
score just 3 in the 2nd over. However, this was Ashby’s last, and
only slip-up as Richard Cornell 21, and Tom Woodward 26 never gave a chance, and
scored the remaining 49 runs in just 6.4 overs, with some brutal hitting, to
seal a comfortable 12 point victory in just 7.5 overs, and secure the Division
2 title with 4 weeks of the season remaining. With the game being won by just
3.00pm there was plenty of time for the Ashby players to enjoy the victory !!
