Ten year old cancer patient Yanique Edwards Thursday received $183,000 to help with her radiation treatment bill, which was estimated at $800,000.
The donations were made by general manager of the Palisadoes Co-operative Credit Union, Maxine Wilson, whose organisation contributed $50,000 of that figure.
Since the story about Edwards' plight was published in Tuesday's Observer persons have been calling in to contribute.
The child's mother, Natalie Cohen, said the Ministry of Health has also agreed
to underwrite about thirty per cent of the cost of the treatment, leaving her to find about $560, 000.

already raised $86, 000 for her daughter. With Thursday's contribution from
about 14 companies, she now has $269,000 - enough to start treatment for
her daughter on Monday.
"They said I should come in with her on Monday. So I will see how it goes,"
Cohen said.
Last June, Cohen took her daughter to the clinic seeking treatment for an ear
infection. Months later, and after visits to numerous doctors, both in Kingston,
and St Mary where they live, Edwards was diagnosed with Lymphoepithelioma (a rare form of cancer.)
The chubby 10 year-old has since lost a lot of weight and has stopped attending school while her mother battles to raise funds to save her life.
According to a spokesman for the Kingston Public Hospital, the child has already received three courses of chemotherapy but now needs the "conformal radiation treatment", which can only be obtained at the Radiation Oncology Centre of Jamaica.
Some of the companies that contributed were Jamaica Cooperative Credit Union, Paymaster Jamaica limited, Wheels and Wheels Auto Brokers, NCB Co-operative Credit Union, Smith and Associates.
