DVD
Re-release Press release The Seven Year Itch Tour marked the end
of a seven-year hiatus of Siouxsie and the Banshees performing live. Sanctuary
Visual Entertainment is proud to announce the re-release of their seminal
live concert performance originally filmed live at the Shepherds Bush
Empire, London, on 10 July 2002. As this was possibly the last tour of the
Banshees, it only seemed fitting to document it on film. The only other live
performance from the Banshees was from 1983. Between
April and August 2002, the Banshees performed sell-out tours of America
(25,000 people as they co headlined a festival in Palm Springs with Bjork),
Japan and Britain. The Banshees with a distinct awareness of the
reputation-shredding potential of the comeback show, seemed to be inspired
and excited by this. The DVD is a testament to the band's staying power and
proves the ultimate example of a rock'n'roll band thriving in the face of
adversity. As
the intro music faded away at those magical sell out shows on the 9th and
10th of July 2002, a slow, shrill wail of guitar and voice signaled that,
lurking in the darkness, Siouxsie and the Banshees were back on
a British stage again. The band attacked their vast catalogue with all the
passion they could muster. The Seven Year Itch Tour live set
rejected the idea of promoting their recent Greatest Hits album, and instead
opted for key album tracks, the ultra-rare and famously unavailable B Sides
(Over 40 songs not yet available on CD; with the exception of the live versions
here), and selected tracks taken from The Singles album. Songs
from their debut album The Scream set the mood, songs that on
the whole had not been played since 1978, Icon from Join
Hands, and splattering of never played live before B sides like I
Could Be Again and Lullaby mixed in beautifully. The
DVD also includes outstanding live renditions of the band's Top 20 hit
singles Christine, Happy House, and Peek-A-Boo.
Also featured is a striking cover version of The Beatles' Blue Jay Way,
performed for the very first time, exclusively for the Seven Year Itch
Tour. |
