Released in August 1980, the
album had been preceded by two singles "Happy House" &
"Christine" which both featured on the album. The album featured John
McGeoch on Guitar, though he was not at this time a full member of the band as
he was the founder member and songwriter with Magazine and was about to start
work on their album "The Correct Use Of Soap" (an excellent Album) .
Also joining the Banshees was Budgie who had just worked on the excellent Slits
album "Cut". Other contributions on the album came from Steve Jones
formally with the Sex Pistols. The first song the New line up had done was
"Happy House" which was released as a single in March of 1980 the B
side of which was "Drop Dead/Celebration which was not about Kenny Morris
& John McKay but was inspired by them Siouxsie later revealed.
During the completion of some
cancelled tour date other songs that would appear on the album surfaced
including what would become the next single "Christine" which was
released in May. In April John announced that he was quitting magazine.
The album was recorded at
Surrey Sound, The Coach House and Polydor between January and May 1980. The
best tracks on the album were the excellent love song "Desert Kisses"
and "Skin" which was a venture into social comment. Steve Jones
played on two tracks on the album "Clockface" &
The excellent "Red
Light" was a Banshees favourite and appeared for many years in the Live
set. Two of the tracks appeared on the Live album "Nocturne" these
were "
Unfortunately by the Banshees
very high standards most of the album was a disappointment when it was finally
released and did not live up to the promise of the two singles.
