Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey
Steam 2007 (Sunday 20th May)

This was the second year of the steam rally at the Royal Gunpowder Mills.
It has the advantage over many rallies of a hard surface roadway around the perimeter of the main field.
Preparing the showman's engine...
The showman's engine makes a circuit of the roadway
Steam rollers at the roadside...
Traction engines and steam lorries join the parade of vehicles
A variety of miniature engines were also on show
A line up of miniature engines, before they appear in the parade
and one of the trailers with an attractive miniatre railway locomotive
More miniatures, though this steam lorry is nearly full size!
A miniature bus gave children rides around the site
There was even a steam powered motor cycle
There are many interesting building around the site, in varioous states of disrepair.
Some are set along the abandoned canal way.
A small section of original 18" track lies almost hidden.
In the main exhibition area are railway exhibits from the Woolwich Arsenal system.
Both locomotives spent some time at Bicton Gardens (Devon) and now require a heavy overhaul before they are used again.
In one of the exhibition halls are two wagons in unrestored condition.
At the oppositve end of the site stands a repainted cordite drying van.
