Steeple Grange Light Railway
Sunday 19th April 2009
| The Steeple Grange Light Railway is built to the unusal gauge of 18" and uses an equally unusual collection of locomotives and rolling stock. | ||
| Small industrial battery electric locomotives rule! This one was running on the short "secondary" extension out towards the National Stone Centre. | ||

||
| The mainstay of services is GREENBAT, which is fitted with airbrakes, necessary for the steep (by railway standards) graident of 1 in 27. As with all these diminutive locomotives space for the driver is limited. Passenger accomdation is in a manrider vehicle from Bevercotes Colliery - which is equally snug! | ||

| The attactive route is part of an old standard gauge branch line. Part way long the route is a newly erected storage shed. | ||

| Pride of the line is Horwich, the Ruston built diesel locomotive once used in the British Railways Howrich Workshops. It looks very smart in its new livery of lined brunswick green. | ||

| Horwich is shown here is the late afternon sun on it's last trip of the day, and back at the railways headquarters next to the locomotive shed and workshop. | ||
