Hill Farm Railway is a small, privately owned 5" gauge line near Hitchin, Herts.
An open day on Sunday 13th May 2007 proved popular with the locals despite heavy rain.
Wet digital cameras don't take the greatest photographs but here's a selection anyway... |
Visitors are greeted by TWO signs:
"Hill Farm Railway" on the gazebo / booking office and the more imposing but less expected ANATEVKA! |

Despite heavy rain there was a steady queue of passengers huddled under the canopy of the station area.
The one locomotive was a smart looking 5" gauge model of a class 73 electro-diesel, called MARGARET. |

The station is a spur off a continuous loop, with each ride consisting of two circuits.
At the end of the journey the train reversed back into the station.
Note that the driver is sitting at the rear of the train with a hand control unit. |

Despite the very short length of line the train completely disappears in the bushy woodland.
Passengers young and old are encouraged to get into the spirit, waving flags and blowing whistles... |

This view from the end of the current station area shows that the line is still developing.
Features such as the (less than full size) signal help add to the atmosphere. |
