110 TD5 XS Station Wagon

Year of registration: '05/05

Owned: July '11 to date

Land Rover Defender 110 TD5 XS Station WagonWhilst my Freelander was an excellent car and a pretty decent four wheel drive, ultimately it just wasn't as inspiring as a full size Land Rover. So I treated myself to 110 station wagon. Unlike my last one though, this time it's a fully operational standard vehicle that won't require lots of work just to bring the basics it up to scratch!

In fact, in many ways this vehicle could have been made for me. Apart from being just the right spec. and colour, the previous owner had kitted it out with some extras that I could have chosen myself. These include a Land Rover expedition roof rack  and 265/75 General Grabber AT2 tyres. It even has second row high back seats, which are great for my children.

As with any Land Rover however, there will definitely be some modifications required. In fact, I'm already drawing up a list! One of the early jobs, though, will be rust proofing. I plan to keep this vehicle for a long time, so I want to invest a bit of time and effort now in protecting things like the chassis, bulkhead and door frames from corrosion.

Beyond that, there will be some upgrades and additions to the lighting (I've already fitted NAS lights to the front), internal storage, Dixon Bate adjustable tow bar and various other tweaks and improvements.

Ultimately, I want to use it for some overland trips, so much of the modifications will no doubt be biased towards that. In the mean time though, this is now my daily driver and an ambition achieved.
