Technical: Discovery I
Mud Flaps

One of the smaller modifications I've made to my Discovery is to change the rear mud flaps.

Like many Discoverys, mine came with only one rear mud flap, the other presumably lost against a kerb or verge somewhere. The factory mud flaps, with the moulded'Lightweight' mud flap bolted to existing mountings Discovery logo, are quite stiff and it seems that an impact fatigues the fixings so that they eventually fall off. They are also quite expensive to replace - they are, of course, only available in pairs!

I reasoned that if the mud flaps were more flexible then the mountings wouldn't suffer quite so much so I ordered a replacement pair from John Craddocks that were originally intended for the Land Rover 'lightweight'. Apart from being cheaper, these have the advantage of being made from a thick flexible rubber material and were bolted to the original mountings with stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers.
