Sodbury
Sortout
The
Sodbury Sortout is basically a giant car boot sale for all things Land
Rover and takes place twice a year, on a Saturday in April and October, at
Newbury Showground. It
grew out of the Vintage Sortout, aimed at enthusiasts of old tractors,
stationary engines and old agricultural equipment when it became obvious
that many people were bringing Land Rover parts, or even complete vehicles
to sell.
The
event used to be run from a farm in Chipping Sodbury (hence the name) in
Wiltshire but by 1999 it had outgrown this site and moved down the M4 to
Newbury. It now attracts several thousand Land Rovers and is a truly
massive event.
I've
been going to the Sortout, either as a buyer or a seller, since about
1996 and I always find something new or interesting to see. The relaxed
atmosphere is excellent and there's always plenty of scope for a bit of
friendly haggling. Its usually possible to find just about any part you
might need, from Series I right up to Discovery II, and a whole mountain
of stuff you don't need but are tempted by anyway.
