Dunsfold Collection

This was one of five prototypes built for military trials for the Belgium army in the early sixties. One other survives at Gaydon, a 6 cyl type with an early style body. The load capacity is 35cwt, which with the drop side body made this a very useful little truck. It originally would have had a rear tilt.

The engine was a 2.25l diesel bored out to 2.5l, with a 5 main bearing crank and a CAV turbo and intercooler set up. A four-speed crash box with a much larger oil capacity is coupled up to a special remote transfer box with a tyre inflation set up. The axles are Timken made, with the only Land Rover part being the rear wheel cylinders. The 1100x16 tyres are the original type that would have been used when new.

This vehicle was found in a scrap yard in Hounslow in 1968 and was snapped up, making this the second collection vehicle to be saved. It had a minor preservation in 2001 and was put back into its original grey paint.
