Dunsfold Collection This model is known as the 1 tonne Forward Control Vampire Body. Around 18 of this type of body were built for a very special job. This one is a prototype, it is also a stage 2 pre-production dating from 1972, chassis number 4 LHD. These Vampires were all LHD because most of the time they were based on the Rhine. They carried very complex radio locating gear and would have traveled around in groups of three. Very little is known about these very sensitive 101's. On the roof would have been an 80ft air operated mast powered by an air compressor mounted on the engine. All Vampires also had a winch - the running weight was right on the limit! This vehicle was a trails vehicle and has had 3 army registration numbers issued to it in the past. |
