The Battle of Britain

 

Upon return from France, No. 73 was sent North to RAF Church Fenton to regroup and rearm. On the 15th of August they were scrambled to intercept a formation over Flambro Head, accounting for eight Ju88s destroyed and five probables. On September the 5th, the Squadron moved south to Debden and within hours of arrival had lost Sergeant A.L. McNay.

Flight Lieutenant Reginald Eric Lovett, ace, and veteran of the Battle of France was killed on the 7th of September 1940.

By the time the Squadron embarked for the Middle East, 6th of November, 1940, they had accounted for 19 enemy aircraft destroyed, 11 damaged, and 9 probables; but not without further cost.
