the story behind east anglias most
independent record company
|
Welcome to splintered records, the label that loves music! Splintered records is an entirely independent record company. Founded in 1980 by John Child to release the e.p. ‘chance’ (the first and only studio recording from the band all cats are grey) the label has continued to support and release original material from bands located in the east of England. Being independent from the major labels, we have the freedom to record who we want, how we feel, and we believe those choices have been pretty good. The catalogue reflects the changing face of independent music across the eighties and nineties, through to the present day. Distribution has largely been through word of mouth and friendly local music shops, although we did enjoy distribution during the eighties with Bristol’s ‘Subway Organization’. Mainly focusing on gigging bands, we have steered clear of art-house acts and the completely obscure. We basically record what we like, and like what we record – and generally, we like songs with a tune! With the spiralling cost of recording studios, the decision was made to set up splintered sound studios in the mid eighties. The studio has enabled us to continue recording and releasing original sound recordings up to the present day. |
