May-2006, A computer company called Global Comm (UK) Limited has started calling itself Acorn Computers Limited and launched itself under this guise at the Computer Trade Show (CTS) at the NEC Birmingham on 10-11 May. They wrongly claim to be the original Acorn in a press release timed to coinside for the event, they plan to target the educational market. They have licensed the trademark for the word Acorn for computers products but not for publicationsnor the Nut logo which is owned by Cabot 2 Limited, formerly (Element 14)[1]. The Reboot movement are angered by the use of the Acorn Computers name, the original Acorn which created the Atom, BBC Micro, RISC OS, ARM CPUs and many other great non-Wintel computer products. RISC OS is one of the top non-Wintel operating systems along with MacOS, BSD and Linux. Computers running RISC OS which use the ARM CPU are still available by mail order. Global Comm (UK) Limited has shown no intension of offering RISC OS running on their PC as an option, even by a dedicated RISC OS company. Instead they are selling bog-standard Windows XP laggard copycat oem laptops. TrustedReviews put a disclaimer on their website after we protested and Reboot also has managed to get Nottingham Trading Standards to start looking into the matter, which could lead to a prosecution.
