There are many improvements to FindFiles which enhance it far beyond any other search program, I will try and list these:

Features that make my program better than any other search tool.

Searching for Strings: (words within ASCII files.)
  • Searching for additional strings.
  • AND and OR functionality when looking for multiple strings
  • Counting strings found, with the ability to see the lines the strings occurred on.
  • The ability to limit searches to 100 lines, thus making searches much faster.

 

Main Searching Functions:
  • The ability to search for more than 1 item, Eg "*.jpg,.bmp, *.gif" will find all files of all those types when entered in the filename box.
  • Folders included in searches, Eg, if your windows folder is called "Windows" try searching for "Win*. " in windows, it does not show your windows folder, Not only does my program show you folders, it also gives you the size of the folder too.
  • Folder searches: When using "*. " my program will show you all folders and files without extensions, this is great when trying to find out what it is that’s taking up all your HD space. I have once found a film I had forgotten about taking up 3 GB using my program.
  • While searching for folders you have the ability to restart the search in that folder alone, "Drilling down" to find what items are taking up large amounts of space
  • NOT searching functionality. The ability to exclude folders and file types from searches is extremely useful if you know you have say folders full of clipart which you know you don’t want to include in searches, you can ignore them.
  • Searching just selected folders on all drives, You can tell the search to just include selected folders in the search if you so wish.
  • Searching just the drives you set, while remembering what you have set previously.
  • Most items being stored and held in "Drop Down" lists so you can reuse previous entries.

General File Functions.
  • All file and folder properties viewable, for example MS-DOS names and Paths are shown.
  • The ability to copy filenames, paths, any other file attributes to memory.
  • The ability to open, copy, move, delete files found.
  • The ability to open the folder of the file found.

Other Features:

The program has been made with the view of ease of use, I have tried my best to keep all functionality Simple and self explanatory, It should be easy to use and bug free, however no program ever written is completely bug free.

It is continually being improved, I expect to add new features and methods as and when either someone suggests an item to me or if I think of a new feature.
