Much interest was taken in the marriage at Stamford Road Methodist Church, Mossley on Saturday last (13 Mar 1937) of Miss Sarah Burke, the adopted daughter of her Uncle and Aunt (Mr. & Mrs. James A. Littlewood), of 12 Shadows Lane, Roaches and Mr. Robert Warhurst Robinson, son of Mrs. Robinson and the late Mr. F. Robinson, of 245, Manchester Road, Mossley.
The bride who is connected with Roaches Methodist Church was employed in the preparation department of the Mossley Woo Combing and Spinning Co. Ltd., while the bridegroom who is associated with Mossley Brow Church Sunday School is in business as a master wheelwright, and both are well known in the town.
Given away by her uncle (Mr. J. A. Littlewood), the bride wore a dress of Coronation mauve satin with long puff sleeves and veil to match. She carried a bouquet of pale carnations and silver horseshoe.
She was attended by Mrs. H. Byrom (cousin of the bridegroom), and Miss H. Roberts and Miss E. Woolley (friends of the bride), who wore dresses of pale blue crepe with roll collars and long puffed sleeves. Their bouquets were composed of pink carnations.
The bride's aunt (Mrs. Littlewood) wore a dress of brown silk, with vest and bows of pink silk, and a brown hat to tone. She also had a pale carnation buttonhole. The bridegroom's mother had a wine-coloured silk dress with felt hat to tone, and a pink carnation.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Winn, of Audenshaw. Mr. James Frederick Burke, brother of the bride, was the best man, and the groomsman was Mr. George Littlewood (cousin of the bride). A reception was held at Roaches Methodist School, attended by about 40 guests. Mr. & Mrs. Robinson have taken up residence at 241, Manchester Road, Mossley.

A Stalybridge born lady, Mrs. Robinson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clarkson of Knowl Street, Stalybridge and was formerly connected with St. Paul's Church. Rev. H. The late Frank Clarkson well known Stalybridge Oddfellow.Much respect was shown at the funeral at St. Paul's Church, Stalybridge, on Saturday of Frank Clarkson of 22 Knowl Street, Stalybridge, who died the previous Tuesday aged 75 years. His wife is in hospital undergoing treatment and recently they lost a married daughter. This has aroused deep sympathy with the family in their bereavement.
Formally employed at Messrs, Buckley and Newton, Corn Mill, Stalybridge Mr Clarkson was a well known figure. He was a prominent local Oddfellow and also popular of the Old Men's Hut in Cheetham's Park. This last summer he was often seen making his way up Mottram Rd to that assembly room of the veterans. He was a man with an exceptional knowledge and memory of Old Stalybridge and could vividly describe with an accuracy many local historical facts. A good conversationalist he was popular were ever he went and many old friends will miss him.
At the funeral about a dozen members of the Old Men's Hut attended. The service was conducted by the Rev Canon BB Slater MA vicar and the mourners were Mr Herbert Clarkson (son) Mr Hugh Mell (son in law), Mrs Lydia Clarkson and Mrs Mary Clarkson ( sister in laws), Mr & Mrs R Robinson (son in law & daughter), Miss Hilda Clarkson (Neice), Mr & Mrs John Simister, Mrs Robinson, Mrs Harrison, Miss Cissie Mellor & Mrs Hurst.

A former Mossley man who was educated at Ashton Grammar School has been awarded the MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours List. He is Mr. Frank Robinson who now lives in Gordons Close, Taunton, Somerset.
Mr. Robinson, Somerset Education Authority Careers Chief, is honoured in recognition of his contribution to the development of the careers service.
He joined the careers service run by Lancashire Education Authority in 1951 and later moved to Staffordshire.
Before moving to Somerset in 1973 Mr. Robinson was deputy principal careers officer with Surrey Education Authority.
Mr. Robinson who is 49 has been a member of the institute of Careers Officers since its' inception in 1961. He served as national President in 1977/78.
He is married with two daughters Susan (24) and Jennifer (20). His wife Helen is head of the infants department of Wellsprings Primary School in Somerset.MR Frank Robinson, Staplehay, (formerly of Henlade), died at Musgrove Park Hospital,Taunton, on Friday, September 11. He was 68.
The funeral service on Wednesday, September 16, at All Saints' Church, Trull, was followed by committal at Taunton Deane Crematorium. The Rev Ross Hathway officiated.
Frank came to Somerset as Principal Careers Officer in 1974, having been deputy Principal Careers Officer in Surrey, and was responsible for establishing the newly created LEA Careers Service in Somerset. Under Frank's leadership Somerset quickly gained a national reputation for the quality of its careers work and the county was at the forefront of many developments.
Frank was an active member of his professional association, the Institute of Careers Officers, and was national president in 1977. For this and other services for careers work Frank was awarded the MBE by her Majesty, the Queen. He was made a Fellow of the institute in 1985.
Following his retirement from the Careers Service in 1991, Frank took up the post of County Twinning Officer for Somerset and this linked with his other great interest, that of Rotary.
Frank joined Taunton Rotary Club in 1981 and was chairman of the Vocational Committee and the International Committee, both roles undertaken with distinction. Recently he undertook the role of Speakers' Secretary and whatever task he under-took it was always with enthusiasm and total involvement epitomising - 'Service Before Self'.
Many of Frank's former colleagues and fellow Rotarians were present at the funeral service, along with friends and family. They filled All Saints' Church, which was indicative of the respect and admiration felt for him and summed up by his friend of almost 50 years, Vernon Pinches.
There were family flowers only with donations for the Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Many people will miss the integrity, commitment and fellowship of Frank Robinson but particular sympathies go to his wife Helen, his daughters Sue and Jenny, their husbands and to the grandchildren.
