Meet the Team

On the Track

The day started at 0730 when we met at John’s house, we had a cuppa then travelled to Mallory Park.  we parked at the top of the hill so we didn’t  have to push the bikes up the hill to scrutineering like we normally do,  it’s getting a bit too much for old farts like us.  It took a while to get through because there was only one scrutineer on duty, normal for a bank holiday though we think they are all full of turkey and Christmas pud!.  Once the bikes were through (no problem as usual) we could get our clothing through and sign on.  Now its time for breakfast at that fantastic café at Mallory, lovely ladies and great service.   Next on the agenda was practice at 10.45.  This was made interesting thanks to those Caterham boys who left a gallon of oil on the track after blowing an engine, this meant that there was a ton of cement dust all the way from Gerrards to Lake Esses, that stuff sure is great when it gets in your eyes!  But we still had some good lap times around the 1.09 mark not too bad for a cold, damp day.

Now down to some serious stuff the first race,  Steve on grid position 15 and John on 29.  John has got some serious work to do to get anywhere near his team mate but after another rather slow start by Steve he managed to catch up quite quickly and finish one place behind Steve in 24th.

In race 2  it was a similar story with Steve making another slow start (after leaving his bike in neutral)  but this time Steve was in front with John battling hard to catch up, by the last lap John was hard on his tail and on the way into Edwina’s he took Steve on the inside but overcooked it a bit causing Steve to catch his rear wheel which sent the poor lad  hurtling into the swamp at Edwina’s and covering his leathers in a vast quantities of mud.  He also injured his thumb (not stopped moaning since, it’s only swollen to twice it’s size, big girly).  The bike suffered some cosmetic damage and a broken brake master cylinder although he was more upset at all the mud on his leathers and having to clean them. John went on to finish in 22nd  place.  This was Steve’s first DNF of the year.

Final Race.  Not so many on the grid for the final challenge.  Steve pulled himself together and although in some considerable pain from his injury managed to put in a great performance. John was not too far behind until the final lap when Steve really went for it and finished in a very credible 18th place with John coming in at 21st.

WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY!

It was either spend a day Racing MZ Skorpions around one of the country’s finest small curcuits or stay in and watch the Great Escape, make your mind up.
