| I'd been on the lookout for a good supplier of well-rotted manure, as my stocks had run out. Last year I'd used a local farmer who'd put an advert up on allotment notice board, but I didn't have his number anymore. Luckily I got a leaflet through my door at the end of January from someone offering garden services and manure deliveries, and although expensive at £30 a load they could deliver the first weekend in February. This was good news, as I wanted to give the earthworms a good few months to drag the manure down into the soil before sowing time. The guy showed up on time (my previous source kept his own schedule and once showed up 2 months late) with a generous trailer load of well rotted cow manure, and kindly loaded it into my manure cage. |
| Putting up the greenhouse continued, and despite the seemingly complex instructions, assembly of the separate sides proved to be quite straight forwards. Putting them together single handed though was a different story, and after watching me trying to bolt adjacent sides together (balancing the wobbly structure with feet, chin, shoulders and legs whilst I did so) Len my neighbour came to my rescue. Without his help I think I'd still be out there. Glazing and concreting in the base supports were left for a future weekend, but a change of weather put pay to all ideas of finishing by February. Two weekends of snow, sleet and freezing temperatures halted work. At least it felt that we'd had a winter. |
