wedding bells

Each year Wedding Bells has an informal look
at the ingredients of a church wedding

This year Wedding Bells is on April 30th.

Wedding Bells begins at 3.30 and lasts for about one hour, with plenty of time to ask all the questions about church weddings which you have ever wanted to ask.

A chance to:

  • try out the top 10 hymns
  • listen to traditional and less traditional music for a walk down the aisle
  • hear some of the bible readings (and think about what they mean)
  • try some of the prayers
  • see what is special about getting married in church.

This will be of special interest to couples who are planning a wedding, or just thinking about marriage.

As well as couples at the beginning of a marriage, there will be a couple present who were married at Saint Saviour's many years ago. They are living proof that a marriage is more than wedding day. Couples who are planning a Smallthorne church wedding have already been invited to this presentation, but any couples are welcome to come along to find out more.

A wedding is a wonderful and happy occasion, and a church wedding is very special. Many couples don't know how to contact their local church, or are not sure whether they want to be married in church. Only couples resident in the parish can be married at Saint Saviour's in Smallthorne (that's the law!) but anyone can come along to Wedding Bells and find out more about a church wedding.

Marriage is big business, and many people are trying to sell things for the big day. The church is not in that game - we are not a business, we are offering people a chance to ask God's blessing on their lives, and you can't put a price on that. We want the day to be happy, but more than that, we want to prepare people for a married life together.
