MOTORISED TELESCOPE FOCUSER

The first picture shows the drawtube of the focuser. The top part holds a 1.25" skyglow filter. Since the focuser will also be used with a focal reducer, provision has been made for the drawtube to be extended when the reducer is not in use. To ensure a stable extension, four thumbscrews are provided.

The focuser design is based on a reverse Crayford design. The tension required for the friction drive to operate is provided by the mild steel construction. Threaded rods and nuts were used in the assembly to allow for near perfect alignment as only hand tools were used in the making.

The pictures below show the focuser with the drawtube in place.

The stepper motor driver and sensors to detect the end of travel of the drawtube still have to be added. The next picture shows the CCD camera in position.
