The Society of the Higher Arts

The Society of the Higher Arts dedicates itself to the pursuit of arts and elegance. The days of common rabble hawking their wares in the halls of the educated are over. All hail the era of the ladies and gentlemen who have paid their dues in terms of education, experience, and political expedience.

The Society of the Higher Arts was founded in July 2004 by Andrew d'Ackerley, Xander Valentine and Pendrake Mortificer..

  1. Members must carry themselves with elegance and style in all contexts, demonstrating that they have risen above the dirt-covered streets of the common riff-raff and are ladies or gentlemen worthy of any court in any realm.
  2. Members must be registered citizens of at least one realm, demonstrating their interest in affairs of state. Members must participate in votes and debates in their native councils, striving to maintain their political influence.
  3. Members must have published at least one book in a bookstore in a major city, published an article or column in a newspaper, a 500 or more words article on the disc wiki, or have a play performed at the Dysk. Members must have bought at least one book or newspaper similarly, not written by them. Reading books and articles is optional, although the author probably would enjoy a comment.
  4. Members must be willing to teach fellow members skills relating to arts and crafts upon request, and to assist them in the pursuit of these skills.
  5. Members must pay at least their own $0.50 club membership fee monthly.
This should be self-evident but just in case.

Goals:

  1. Seek out and recruit more people who share our goals. We are, however, not in as much of a rush as to drop our standards in recruiting.
  2. Maintain an advertising message with the Ankh-Morpork town criers at all times. The message may vary, but should always be there.
  3. Acquire and maintain a player shop in Ankh-Morpork (preferably Ankh) in which the focus will be on art and culture, although other items will be dealt with for sakes of fundraising.
  4. Inspire the creators to add more uses and interactive purposes for the crafts skills, particularly those related to art forms. Discuss these ideas and submit them to the creator team when fleshed out.
