It can scarcely be denied that the supreme goal of all theory is to make the irreducible basic elements as simple, and as few as possible, without having to surrender the adequate representation of a single datum of experience. - Albert Einstein.

In other words - Keep things as simple as possible, but do not over simplify.

Introduction to this site

This site is about the fundamental principles of technology. Technology is now so advanced that students must start learning somewhere beyond and above the fundamental principles. Many people working in advanced technical work lack the knowledge of the basic underlying theories.

With frantic competition in technical advancement mankind runs the risk of losing touch with the essential foundations of technology, and like a building with weak foundations there is a danger that the whole system of knowledge could collapse.

We can now store vast amounts of data in a form which will virtually last forever, and many libraries and archives take great care of that knowledge, but all that knowledge is of use to only one being, that is MAN, and intelligent and sophisticated men at that. We have to doubt whether man, or civilization anyway, will survive as long as the data.

James Lovelock believes that mankind as a species will survive the imminent dramatic changes to our climate, but that civilization will not. The human animal is biologically exactly the same as the man of 100,000 years age. We evolve only slowly. It is our civilization, not the species which has made great progress, especially in the last 100 years. We are already beginning to see that the ignorant are those who prosper.
