HONORARY PRESIDENT: PATRICK McGOOHAN Six of One was formed at the end of 1976, to appreciate the classic 1967 TV series THE PRISONER, starring Patrick McGoohan. The character he played was known only as No. 6 and was held in a strange fantasy setting, called The Village. Leaders called No. 2 prevented his escape, but the mystery figure No. 1 was the ultimate authority. OFFICIAL 30TH ANNIVERSARY WAS IN JANUARY 2007 Patrick McGoohan - who resides in California accepted the honorary presidency of Six of One when the society was first formed. He has held the position ever since and has received over 100 regular mailings, since 1976. As well as sending messages for members, Patrick McGoohan congratulated the society upon its official 20th birthday in 1997. THE SIXTH OF THE FIRST Naming Six of One occurred on its official inception, the Sixth of January, 1977. The date and a phrase used in the TV series (Six of one, a half a dozen of another), combined to produce the societys title. Since that time, over 50,000 annual memberships have been enrolled. OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED Six of Ones first dealings were through ITC, the company which created many memorable British TV series (The Saint, Man In A Suitcase, Danger Man etc.), until PolyGram and then Carlton International Media acquired the back catalogue of programmes. In 2004 Granada Ventures acquired THE PRISONER copyright. INTERNATIONAL INTEREST The society has enjoyed enlisting members from around the world: North America, Australia and New Zealand, Japan and across Europe. THE PRISONERs message is universal and the series has been translated into many languages, as well as being screened in 100 different territories, released on videos, DVDs and audio soundtrack CDs. ALWAYS ACTIVE Six of One holds various events and an annual convention in Portmeirion, North Wales. This is the hotel resort, on its own private peninsula, where the 1966 PRISONER exterior location filming took place. Celebrity guests from the series attend events and share their admiration of a unique production. WHERE TO FIND US For a decade, Six of One has had a presence on the World Wide Web, but its postal address in the UK has existed for twice as long at Box 66, IPSWICH IP2 9TZ.
