Trial By Jury

Dear Kababayans,

The adoption and implementation of Trial by Jury in our judicial system is undoubtedly difficult but not impossible.  Many progressive countries like UK, Germany, France, USA and many more have it.  Even Japan installed it just last May 2009 and South Korea is undergoing the transformation.

So, why should the Philippines not have it too?   The recent resignations of many MPs and even the Speaker of the House due to the expenses scandal is just one proof of how effective Trial by Jury is in the UK.  Rather than be sued in the courts where they will be judged by ordinary citizens, in just weeks of exposure, they opted to resign instead!  This is the system we need in the Philippines!

We don't want Senate Investigations into corruption that achieve nothing but public shows.  Meanwhile, the real perpetrators go unpunished.    The Philippine Jury Campaign International (UK) of which I am a campaigner, is inviting you to join us, directly or indirectly depending on the level of commitment you could give.  If you could organise big or small groups of Filipinos in your community, I will come to you and give a talk about the campaign, the planned action and the way forward.

Since the general election is looming, we would like to act simultaneously with our Philippine counterpart _ KAMALAYAN SA KATARUNGAN NG LAHING KAYUMANGGI (that is registered with the SEC just as we, here, are registered with Companies House) to make the people aware of another solution to the deepening corruption in our country.  Even if the coming election produces some well-meaning leaders, they will in time become corrupted because our system is flawed.

It breeds corrupt leaders.   Should you decide to become involved, please also encourage the youth in your community to join.  Afterall they are the immediate beneficiaries of this campaign.  Since the schools and universities are now winding down, it is best to act now otherwise we will have to wait until the kids get back from holiday.  This is an activity they could do besides the ones which are mostly centered on personal gratification.

For once, they will be taught how to love and honour their country!   I will be available from 17 July except 1st August because I will be campaigning in Liverpool.  Please notify me as early as possible so I could organise my schedule.   Please help us with our campaign for our country.  It is the only one we have got!   I look forward to hearing from you.
