CHRISTINE COLLISTER - Norwich Arts Centre - Fri 8th Nov 8.00 pm

For more than fifteen years Christine's powerful voice of rare quality has sparkled effortlessly across a musical spectrum of soul, blues, pop, jazz, country and folk. She convincingly interprets Smokey Robinson, Nick Drake and Tom Waits whilst her own compositions have developed their own distinctive quality. Christine first came to national attention singing the theme for the BBC's "Life and Loves of A She Devil". A fruitful association with the Richard Thompson Band and album appearances with Loudon Wainwright III and Bert Jansch were followed by critical and commercial success in a seven-year partnership with songwriter Clive Gregson. Her solo career has enhanced her stature with albums such as "The Dark Gift of Time" and "Blue Aconite". With a gravity defying voice, assured and impressive live performances and great personal charm, she is a phenomenal live act. "…so much soul you'd think she'd been signed by Motown…boundary breaking is routine for Collister and makes her one of the finest grown-up vocalists on the planet" Q Magazine

Tickets £8.00 from Norwich Arts Centre box office on 01603 660352.

SHOW OF HANDS - King's Lynn Arts Centre - Sun 1st Dec 7.45 pm and The Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich - Mon 2nd Dec 7.30 pm

One of the most successful acts on the UK acoustic scene visits King's Lynn and Norwich on consecutive nights. (The Lynn concert is being promoted by our good friend Trevor Nurse). Steve Knightley is regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of the acoustic world, whilst multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer is much in demand as a session musician and also tours with his own band. Their music combines English, American and Celtic influences to weave a rich tapestry of songs, stories and rhythms. Steve and Phil play an array of instruments on stage, including guitars, cello-mandolins, cuattro, fiddle and squeeze-box. Following their sell-out concert at the Royal Albert Hall and the subsequent "Big Gig" TV programme, Show of Hands were the first folk act to be invited to stage a special summer show at the Eden Project in Cornwall and were nominated as "Best Group" and "Best Live Act" at this year's Radio 2 Folk Awards. "Vibrant, original songs delivered on acoustic instruments with a rock 'n' roll strut - only Show of Hands can do this" Q Magazine Tickets for King's Lynn are £10 (box office 01553 764864) and Norwich £11 (box office 01603 620917). Please note different start times.

And finally… we must mention that Norwich Arts Centre is presenting singer/ songwriter Martyn Joseph on Mon 9 December. If you've seen him perform with Steve Knightley and Tom Robinson as the "Faith Folk and Anarchy" trio you'll have seen the man's ability but it's as a solo performer that Martyn really shines, showcasing the integrity of his songwriting and the issues he cares about. Call the box office on 01603 660352 for ticket information.
