Mapperly Reservoir Mapperly Reservoir is the most famous of the waters in the local area, as it once held the British Carp record at 26lb.which is now in a museum. This water is 18 acres with about 2 acres of nature reserve. The depth averages 14 to 18 feet off the dam wall. The pike in here go to about 20lb.+ The carp in this water go to Mid 20`s with the biggest caught up to yet is 26lb. Many Anglers Who Fish this Water cast about 100 yard towards the other side were they catch most of their fish but fish do come out of the margins and in the middle just as well. In the summer you get pestered by tench averaging about 4lb. which can be a pain. Dick Walker and Many others fished the reservoir in the 50`s & 60`s hoping to catch one of the so called monsters that was said to be in the water, but that fish hasn't bitten yet!!! The reservoir is stocked with Carp, Pike, Tench, Bream, Perch, Gudgeon and Roach. Best Methods for carp here are boilie, and they are not particular on which flavour although most fish fall to large amounts of baiting, the angler that puts in the nights seems to catch most of the fish. To Fish the water you will need an NCB area 5 season ticket but day tickets can be bought in advance from Shipley visitors centre, this lake is open June till June, no closed season.
