Doc C is our very own Doctor of Music who devotes his life to inventing and playing music. He is involved not only with Tangata as
head of the accordion department, but also writes music for theatre projects, TV and film, as
well as playing piano with a jazz trio and being a church organist. He performs and writes for
the Nottingham-based Nusantara Malay gamelan orchestra. He has recently gone hi-tech
and may be spotted flying over Nottingham with his keyboard, laptop and tin whistle anytime
soon. His self-released album, Back from The Lab, fusing electronics with acoustic instruments
and leftfield beats, was featured on BBC Radio 3's Mixing It programme and is still available to
interested parties (email charles@tangata.co.uk). He has also visited the depths of the
Peruvian rainforest to record the singing of the Shipibo Indians. He will be giving a paper on
this at a Music and Consciousness conference this July at Sheffield University (http://
