Helen Blatch was born in 1908 to Tom and Geri Blatch in Woking. Blatch's first words as a child, in response to an order from her mother to "get back in that bloody pram at once and that's a fecking order!" were "and may my bones rot for obeying it!". From then on, fame and stardom beckoned.

Blatch left school at 14 and became a child prostitute. Then she joined the Institute for the Dramatically Challenged and was then snapped up by the BBC. Blatch's first TV role was in none other than "Doctor Who and Goth", a popular teatime TV program at the time. Producer Philiip Hinchcliffe wanted someone rather special to play "Voice" and knew, when he overheard Blatch talking about stabilised black holes in the BBC Canteen, that he'd indeed found his "Voice".

Blatch was soon appearing in the major roles of "Receptionist" in Blakes 7 (having found she had a natural affinity for shit tv science fiction) and the comedy "Sorry!" where she starred as "Mrs Dundridge" opposite Ronnie Corbett. It was not until 1984, however, that Blatch played her most famed character "Fabian" in "Doctor Who and the Sound of Giant Slugs".

So popular was Fabian that Blatch didn't work again for eight years. Eventually, however, she was back playing parts in The Bill and others.

Blatch has also had a notable film career, appearing as "Nurse" in "The Ruth Rendell Mysteries" and "Mrs Briggs" in Tenko, a part Blatch based on her old drama teacher, Mrs Briggs.

Blatch was known within the industry for her sense of humour. She kept up a running joke with many of her co-stars, begun when one of them humourously referred to her as "shit" on the set of "A Touch of Frost". For years afterwards the actor in question, and many others, would jokingly shout out "you're crap!" at her. Ever the good sport, Blatch would continue the joke, shouting back "I know!", such was her magnificent sense of humour.

Blatch now works in a Post Office in Thurrock whilst in-between roles. A director was once heard to remark of one of her performances "after this performance, you'll never work again", testament to the fact that Blatch's acting was simply unbeatable.
