STATEMENT
FROM
THE FRIENDS OF SEEDHILL PLAYING FIELDS
The Friends of Seedhill
Playing Fields have welcomed the council’s decision to put
a stop to the planned commercial development of the fields. With
the support of thousands of people in the local community, the
group has campaigned for the past 18 months to prevent homes being
built on the site, which is one of the few remaining playing fields
in Paisley.
A spokesperson
for the group said “we are absolutely delighted that the
new council has listened to this community and reversed the ill-conceived
plans of the former administration. In particular we would like
to thank the head of the council, Derek McKay and Provost Celia
Lawson, who publicly gave us their support throughout the campaign
and have now backed up their words with the actions we were all
hoping for. In listening to their constituents’ wishes,
they and their colleagues in the SNP have shown a level of integrity
which has been sadly lacking in our local government in the past
and we feel that this bodes well for the people of Renfrewshire.
We would also like
to give our heart-felt thanks to everyone else who supported the
campaign and will now benefit from the planned improvements to
the existing pavilion and sports facilities, whilst still enjoying
all of the green space we have now. With the help of our new council,
this community has proven that democracy can triumph and we hope
that this news provides encouragement to other similar campaigns.”
Well
done everyone!
