Every year The Sussex Canoe Club holds an annual Ball in a posh hotel on the seafront, and this was one of the best yet!
Over 70 Sussex Canoe Club members dolled themselves up and went to this classy award ceremony for an amazing night, it’s a chance to see how well we all scrub up when we’re not in Kayak kit, camping clothes or at a house party. Previous years have been themes from a Masked Ball to a James Bond Ball, this year was surprisingly subtle and was themed ‘The Buttonhole Hole Ball’ and held at the grand ‘Queens Hotel’ opposite the sea front. The idea was that you can either pin a funky or random broach to your dress or have an unusual button hole in your Tuxedo. They ranged from flowers to an entire door bell system with the button coming through the hole of the tux. The awards took place after a delicious three course meal with as much free wine as you could drink then we cranked up the tunes and had a boogie. Well done to everyone who won awards, the winners were: Best Buttonhole: Brian Sharpe Worst Buttonhole: Mike Bateson Swim of the Year: Kate Parrett Most out of their depth on a river: Earl Gammon Saviour of the canoe club: Grace Norman Foul Mouth: Taz Sophal Squeeky Bed: Ben Nolan and Michelle Flockton Puke of the Year: Andrew Parker by Jade Bremner |
