Master J. C. Shin arrived in America in 1968, as the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association representative for the U. S. He formed the United States Tang Soo Do Federation in Burlington, New Jersey, and this organization spread across America and into other countries. This traditional art was quickly accepted and began to grow in popularity across the world.

After 14 years of Tang Soo Do promotion around the world it was decided that the organization needed to be re-organized to fit in new national and international demands.

A charter convention for the World Tang Soo Do Association was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 13th and 14th November 1982 and a new constitution was passed. The uniform and belt system were revised and new organizational standards were adopted.

More importantly, a decision was taken at the convention to officially recognize Master Jae Chul Shin as the Grandmaster of the World Tang Soo Do Association.

The Association proclaimed 3 mottoes, Traditionalism, Professionalism and Brotherhood, and drew the interest of many international martial artists who had a true interest in the art, and the fact that it was not sport orientated.

The Association has expanded over the years, with studios in countries such as  Argentina, Great Britain, Puerto Rico, Mexico, U.S.A., Germany and Greece to name but a few.

The World Tang Soo Do Association is now one of the most respected martial arts organizations in the world.
