As stated previously, Tang Soo Do is not just about being able to fight. The three main purposes of Tang Soo Do training are listed below

SELF- DEFENCE - We protect our lives ( families/friends) and possessions from injustice and danger

HEALTH - We promote our physical and spiritual health and enjoy strong bodies and sound minds through rigorous training

BETTER PERSON - We strive to be of better character through endurance and hard work

In essence Tang Soo Do is a way of life and is an artistic study with two distinctive characteristics which are :-

Physical expression of the human instinct for self preservation

The spiritual realization that comes with character development

Or, in other words, Tang Soo Do starts the development of better health and self-defence on a physical level and progresses to a philosophical art allowing one to discover their full potential in an esoteric sense.

If Tang Soo Do is seen this way, a student must master self and overcome physical limitations to gain the spiritual power. These elements work simultaneously and independently, so technical ability and achievement alone are not enough to master Tang Soo Do. Students must strive to understand non-physical power, or "The Power of Spirit".

A true Tang Soo Do practitioner constantly seeks to learn its philosophy whilst practicing its physical techniques.
