Phix Newbie Guide

The Mech Warrior 3 Gaming community

The zone is not just thousands of individual players playing for themselves against everyone else.  The main bulk of Mech3 players belong to one team or clan - maybe a few clans.

If you join the Inner Sphere Lobby you can see all the players in Inner Sphere listed on the right.  You may notice a pattern as you scan down all the names.

Some have the same ending like
Si_Phix
Noz_Phix
(team Need A Phix)

Some have the same beginning like
KuR_Red_Mist
KuR_White_Angel
(Kathil Uhlan Rebels clan)

Others are obvious as in
WhenDeathComes
WhenFamineComes
(The Horsemen (TH))

This is a way of showing where everyone belongs. Some people who are in multiple clans/teams have many names (above I'm Si_Phix and KuR_Red_Mist)

There are dozen's of clans in Inner Sphere.  Not all of them get on.  There can be inter-clan fighting in and out of the game.  It has been known for people to attack each other verbally in the lobby text at the bottom of the lobby window.  This is a newbie survival guide so I'm telling you it as it is..  If you pick on a clan member the rest of his buddies are likely to turn up sooner or later and they won't be happy.

There are "MSN police" called the Members Plus that can be called on if any trouble breaks out in the public chat areas.  If they arrive you will see them with a "+" before their name.  They can ban you from the zone for limited or unlimited time so you have been warned!

The other Important thing is next to the names.  You have some Green/Yellow/red bars.  This is your "Lag" to that player (the time it takes for information from your computer to reach theirs and back).  The order is:

4 Greens  (Very good lag)
3 Greens  (Good enough Lag)
2 Yellows (Not so good Lag)
1 red  (Lags in trouble)
N/A  (There is a computer out there???)

Take notice of this when connecting to a game.  The people with 3&4 greens will be easier to hit (they find it easy to hit you too) and you will have more trouble hitting them the worse the lag.
