Welcome to Cambridge Symphonic Winds
Next Concert: May 26th 2012
We will take you on a journey through the heroes and heroines of theatre, opera, and film. Starting with an Olympian fanfare with Summon the Heroes we move on to a set of variations based on a medieval tune, Ronde for Isolde , but injected with the infamous harmony Wagner introduced in his opera Tristan and Isolde. Whitacre's Sleep changes to a relaxed atmosphere. We then premiere our conductor's arrangement of Shostakovic's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District Suite which comes from the opera about a murderous anti-heroine. Tristan Encounters returns us to Wagner's masterpiece with a homage to the Prelude and Leibestod in the modern energetic style unique to Ellerby. We finish on a lighter note with a selection of famous sound tracks from everyone's favourite spy, James Bond 007.
