Kether School Lineage

There is hot debate in the Reiki community as to whether your Reiki lineage is important or not. In some instances, we've heard that Master/Teachers have claimed their Reiki is 'better' because they have a short or prestigious lineage. We don't think the length or 'quality' of your lineage in any way affects your own ability with Reiki. But we just think it's a nice thing to know about, if the information is available. Some lineages have been 'forgotten' as they have passed down through so many students without previous teachers recording or remembering those who went before, but we happen to be lucky enough that Paul Weston passed on details of our lineage to us. We have even been fortunate enough to find pictures of all the Reiki teachers in it, which we can pass on to our own students.

If you train to Master/Teacher Level with us, you can make a copy of this document and add your own details on the end. The lineage begins with the founder, Mikao Usui:

Usui

Mikao Usui, born in 1865, discovered Reiki during a retreat on Mt Kurama in 1914.

It's believed he developed this system of healing based on a formula he found in ancient Sanskrit Buddhist sutras. Following the formula he went into the mountains and fasted and meditated for 21 days. On the last day he had a vision, which completed his system. Some say that during his vision he received the Reiki symbols that are part of the system. Others say he got the symbols before hand from the Temple where he studied. In either case, the system he developed became an effective tool for healing. Usui Sensei spent the rest of his life sharing his Reiki system and trained many others how to teach it. Before his death in 1926 he had set up a group called the Usui Shiki Ryoho in Tokyo to continue on with the practice after his death. Through this group many teachers have been trained in Japan.

Mikao Usui initiated sixteen masters, one of whom was Chujiro Hayashi.

Hayashi

Chujiro Hayashi

At the age of 47 Dr. Hayashi received Reiki teacher training from Usui Sensei. For about ten years he ran a Reiki clinic. During those ten years he came up with a more complicated set of hand positions and divided the Reiki training into three levels or degrees.

Hayashi initiated thirteen masters, one of whom was Mrs Takata, (b. 1900) who brought Reiki to the West in the 1930s. She is pictured here with her grand-daughter, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, who is a prominent Reiki Master/Teacher in America.

After being healed from serious conditions in Dr. Hayashi's clinic, Mrs. Takata decided to learn Reiki. She spent at least a year working for Dr. Hayashi in his clinic before receiving the second-degree training. Then she opened up a clinic of her own in Hawaii. In 1938, she received her teacher training from Dr. Hayashi. Within the ten years before her death in 1980 she trained twenty-two teachers.

Iris

Iris Ishikuro

Iris is one of the teachers trained by Mrs. Takata between 1973 and 1980. She was one of the first teachers to break away from Takata's tradition by charging less for attunements. She died a few years ago.

Arthur

Arthur Robertson

Iris Ishikura trained Arthur as a Reiki teacher in 1982. Like Iris, Arthur decided to break away from Takata's tradition by charging much less for training. He was also instrumental in developing the new branches of Reiki, in particular Raku Kei Reiki and Tibetan Reiki, which in turn were partly used in the development of Karuna Reiki. Arthur died in 2001. He is shown above with Iris.

jsande

Jeanine Sande

Arthur Robertson trained Jeanine as a Reiki teacher in 1989. Like Arthur and Iris before her did, she charges reasonable fees for training. She has further broken away from Takata's tradition by combining first and second degree into a single three-day workshop. Currently she teaches Reiki and other healing techniques at 'Lighten Your Way' in Soquel, California.

jtripp

Judith Tripp

Judith Tripp came over to England from America and initiated Paul Weston, in the early Nineties. She still regularly visits Glastonbury and runs courses in healing. We were very short on information on Judith, until a helpful visitor to this site donated the following information. Thank you, Deb Medenbach. This is much appreciated.

"I came across your Reikki lineage website and saw that you are looking for information about Judith Tripp, a remarkable person and friend of mine.

Judith is a psychotherapist with an active practice in California, as well as an accomplished flute player with a few recordings to her credit. She indeed leads healing retreats to Glastonbury and worked actively for years with Dr. Lauren Artris on the Labyrinth Project at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. She has also led labyrinth workshops at Chartres Cathedral. In addition to her Reiki work, she is also a certified yoga teacher, though I believe she just incorporates yoga into the workshops she does.

Though I count myself lucky to be her friend, I admit she probably has numerous other "credentials" to her credit she just never mentioned. Healers transcend the numerous labels we give them.

I hope this helps you somewhat with your listing. How lucky Paul was to have her as his initiator!"

paul

Paul Weston

Our Reiki Lineage comes to England! A prominent figure in Glastonbury's spiritual life, Paul is a Master of Reiki, Seichim and Karuna Ki. He has a wide knowledge of esoteric subjects and regularly lectures upon them. He is pictured here at the ruined Abbey of Glastonbury, before the altar in St Joseph's Chapel. Following in the tradition of this lineage, Paul also charges very reasonable fees for Reiki training.

The Kether School of Reiki Master Teacher

Storm Constantine

In 1999, Storm started her Reiki training with her friend Paul in Glastonbury, and took her Master Teacher degree in 2000. Storm has wide experience in meditation and diverse aspects of alternative spirituality. She has co-written books on Egyptian feline goddesses, ('Bast and Sekhmet: Eyes of Ra') which came out through Robert Hale in 1999 and Egyptian Birth Signs (Thorsons 2002). Storm is also an internationally selling fiction author.

Ellen Nicholson joined the school as a teacher, after receiving third degree from Storm, in 2002. In founding the School, Storm aimed to provide affordable Reiki training for all students, with concessions for those on low incomes.

Storm took Master training in Seichim and an early form of Karuna Reiki from Paul during 2000-2001, which she then passed on to Ellen. Both teachers continue to study the various branches of Reiki that have arisen over the last twenty years.
