The Kether School of Reiki was formed in 2000 by Storm Constantine, in the Midlands of England. She was trained by Paul Weston in Glastonbury, England. The school has gradually expanded over the last couple of years, and has two Master Teachers in Storm and Ellen Nicholson R.N.
Both Teachers have a strong background in alternative spirituality, and have practised various meditational techniques for many years. The training offered by the school suits those with similar interests. There are so many different 'flavours' of Reiki out there nowadays, it can be difficult for potential students to make a choice between the sometimes bewildering array of options. However, we believe that students always find the teacher who is right for them and vice versa. We will describe our practices and beliefs clearly, to help you decide whether our school is best for you or not.
The Constitution of the School
The following information is given to all students prior to first degree.
Each person should accept ultimate responsibility for his or her own self-healing.
Reiki should never be given to another person without their consent.
As such, the Kether School of Reiki requires either written or oral requests for healing or teaching.
Any financial exchange between practitioner and recipient is not a charge for the healing energy of Reiki, but for the time and service of the practitioner/teacher.
The practitioner, although possessing the ability to channel Reiki, is not the origin of its healing power. Therefore, no financial value can be associated with Reiki itself.
The Kether School of Reiki adheres to the following principles:
It promotes a non-dogmatic, autonomous practice.
Its training is not affiliated to any specific religion or spirituality.
Self-evolution can only derive from freedom of the individual.
We work on the premise that dysfunctions of the body incorporate energy/mental/emotional causes as well as physical. Any students undergoing attunement should be willing to explore the personal implications of this threefold idea.
It is the duty of the School to inform potential students that Reiki enables personal changes of varying degrees, individual to each person. It is therefore the responsibility of the student to accept the possibility of these changes prior to attunement. Any consequent emotional, mental or physical changes due to the attunement process will be supported and guided by the teachers of the School.
No contact treatment will be administered on any areas of the body without verbal permission of the initiate or recipient.
The Kether School of Reiki does not suggest that Reiki should be used instead of conventional medical treatment. Reiki should always be used to complement and augment it.
As a student of the School, you should not charge people for giving them Reiki treatments until you have taken second degree and are thoroughly familiar with the energy and have practiced with it extensively.
The School requires that any potential students understand and accept the above principles of its constitution.
The School also likes to inform potential students of the following points:
Once a student is attuned to Reiki, they have it for life and it is theirs to use and experiment with as they see fit.
It is the experience of the School that the majority of students will gain the ability to recognise a change in the physical sensations of their body and hands as they learn to channel Reiki. However, the School also accepts that in a minority of cases, the physical sensation of Reiki is not always experienced in conjunction with its channelling.
You will get out what you put into Reiki. The Kether School of Reiki recommends that following attunement for first degree, the student should practice Reiki daily (if only for ten minutes or so) for at least the first twenty-one days. We cannot be responsible for any dormancy or dysfunction of Reiki flow if this advice is not followed.
Essential Requirements for Reiki Degrees
The First Degree
The main requirement for this degree is the desire to have Reiki as a means of helping yourself and/or others.
Students are not obliged to give Reiki treatments to individuals other than themselves after the first degree in order to take second degree at a later stage.
It is essential that, prior to treatment or attunement, potential students inform the school of any serious mental or physical illness, which requires the use of medication.
The Second Degree
The student must have taken first degree Reiki before taking the second degree, but not necessarily from the Kether School of Reiki.
For second degree, we ask that students present notes to show how they have been working with Reiki. Brief casebooks for three recipients (animals, plants or humans), or an account of personal healing, will suffice.
We will teach second degree, after seeing the required coursework, three months following the first degree.
The student should be willing to accept, practice and work with the Reiki symbols given during the attunement process, in accordance with the Usui system of Reiki.
The Third Degree
Potential Reiki Masters should have already taken Second Degree Reiki, but not necessarily with the Kether School of Reiki.
Students should only take this degree if they are committed to taking their Reiki studies and self-evolution further. There should be some kind of 'call to service' within them, whether as a teacher and/or a healer of themselves or others.
The School requires five 'cases' to be presented prior to attunement, illustrating how Reiki has affected both practitioner and the recipient. The student should detail their observations, and any results or follow up work.
If the student has not worked on others, the School requires a detailed notebook of their work with Reiki, how it has affected them and their thoughts on its use.
We require potential Masters to have experimented with the various techniques learned at Second Degree, including 'sending'. Students should be thoroughly familiar with the symbols received at second degree and their uses.
The Kether School of Reiki will teach Reiki Master degree, in receipt of the required coursework, one year after the student has taken first degree. In certain cases, when it's evident the student has worked hard and is ready for Third Degree, this time limit can be revised at the discretion of the School.
The School requires that any potential Master Teacher has a strong desire to teach Reiki to others.
We do not want the cost to be prohibitive and instead consider that the true price of Reiki Mastership should be enthusiasm and commitment.
Finally, in accordance with the constitution of the Kether School of Reiki, these requirements are non-negotiable and must be willingly accepted by any potential students.
