My Experience of Reiki Attunements |
  |
By Rachel Gray
As a keen learner, and interested in many varieties of complementary health/alternative therapies/holistic remedies etc, I'd heard a lot about Reiki, the benefits of Reiki and also that I could become a Reiki practitioner myself. So I read a little about what it was, and what the pros and cons are, and thought I'd go straight into having attunements, i.e. become a Reiki practitioner level 1.
I found Storm's website and her school offering the course and decided to book some training. Coming up to the day I had booked, I started to feel very nervous. After all, I hadn't even had a Reiki healing session before, so didn't know what to expect or anything!
The big day arrives. Storm starts off with an introduction into what Reiki is, where it was founded etc, and introduces me to her friend, Claudia, who is going to help her with my attunements. After a brief chat I'm taken into the attunement room and made to feel comfortable. Then the music is turned on to a nice, soft and gentle level.
To begin, I was given a healing session. Storm started at my head, Claudia at my feet. To try and describe the experience of a Reiki treatment is quite hard. Really, you need to test it for yourself. But here's my version: I started by having everyday mundane thoughts. I acknowledged them and put them to the side, and gently began to relax, sinking into a trancelike state. I felt like I was floating up into the air. I just didn't care about all my worries and concerns any more. The feeling was great. Then I floated all the way down and it was like I was sinking right into the ground, as if the ground was swallowing me up. It was an amazing sensation. I decided it was a perfect session, as it showed all my worries being taken away and then it grounded me.
After the healing session, we went into a guided meditation led by Storm. This was an optional meditation that led me to my spirit guides/totem animals or any spiritual helpers. I thoroughly enjoyed the meditation, although it was the first time I had meditated so I didn't get anything too clear. But I could see something in the distance. I was trying to chase after it, but it was like chasing the end of a rainbow. It moved further away, the harder I tried. Maybe I was trying too hard to get information, or see something; I don't know.
The attunements came next, two one afternoon, two the next. These were nothing like I expected, but then I'm not quite sure what I expected! I saw swirls and lots of light as the attunements were being given, which I know now are related to the symbols I learned at level 2, later on.
All in all, I'd recommend anyone to undertake the Reiki attunements. It is only a two day course and, yes, the school might perhaps be some distance away, but for those who would like to go into healing, Reiki is an easy method of getting there. If you're serious about it, you practice and practice. The build up of energy inside is what I'd describe as totally fantastic and very addictive! I began Reiki simply to include in my alternative therapies, but now it's just that so much more. The energy side is totally out of this world.
