Matt Williams was born in Swansea, UK. Nowadays he lives and works in Newport, South Wales. Though not a musician himself, Williams's first published non-fiction was for small press guitar magazine, G-Force. In 1995 he released a book called The Modern Guitarist: A History Of Rock Guitar Since The 70s (for private circulation) which examined the phenomenon of the highly technical modern guitarist. In May 2001, Matt contributed an introduction to the CD booklet for Warmth in the Wilderness -- A Tribute to Jason Becker, an album of songs dedicated to one of the best guitarists of the 80s (tragically struck down with the nerve disorder, ALS). The CD features tracks by some of the world's most famous guitarists, including Steve Morse, Jeff Watson, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert and Marty Friedman.
Matt recently started a new guitar music label, Liquid Note Records, dedicated to showcasing some of the hottest signed and unsigned guitarists in the world today. The first album, a (double) compilation CD entitled The Alchemists features players such as Ron Thal, Brett Garsed, Dave Kilminster (John Wetton Band), Todd Duane, Stephen Ross and Stephan Forte (Adagio) and was released in May 2002. Further collaborative projects were released in 2003/2004, including Richard Hallebeek Project (feat. Shawn Lane and Brett Garsed), Electrocution 250, J.A.M. and Ominox.. The label has attracted some of the best players in the business and promises to highlight an incredibly talented and diverse selection of musicians, some of whom have yet to attain widespread recognition.
Alongside music writing he has contributed articles, reviews, columns and interviews to such professional and semi-professional fantasy, horror and SF magazines as Prism (The British Fantasy Society Newsletter), Samhain, The Third Alternative, Outland (Ottaker's SF and Fantasy newsletter), Shivers and Starburst. In late 1998, Matt (in collaboration with Ray Clark) released his first 'proper' book, Manitou Man (short-listed for the British Fantasy Award for Best Collection; short-listed for a World Fantasy Award). As well as featuring fiction by best-selling author Graham Masterton, the book also included critical essays as well as an original interview and artwork, plus an extensive bibliography of his many works.
Matt is also responsible for creating and running the official Graham Masterton site as well as contributing a monthly DVD column to the award-nominated horror, fantasy and SF site, The Alien Online.
