Your first steps
to setting up a tenants association
Talk with other people on your estate about
the idea of setting up a tenants and residents association
Contact the Fieldworkers at Kirklees Federation of Tenants &
Residents Associations (KFTRA) and your Neighbourhood Tenant
Participation Officer for help and advice (Kirklees only). They
will help you produce some leaflets and publicity and will come
and talk to you and your neighbours about setting up a group.
Useful contacts: Kirklees Tenants Federation (KFTRA) Tel (01484)
223466. Neighbourhood Tenant Participation Officers: for North
Kirklees Tel (01924) 325627; for South Kirklees Tel (01484) 221726.
Call a public meeting to discuss setting up a Tenants and Residents
Association - you could invite your Housing Manager or a member
of another Tenants & Residents Association along. Advertise
the meeting with a door to door leaflet and posters in shops.
At
the public meeting:
Decide on a name for your Tenants &
Residents Association - decide what area or streets you are going
to cover
Elect a committee with a chairperson, a secretary and a treasurer
and a team of committee members
Work out how you want to organise yourselves
- that means drawing up a constitution - look at the model
constitution on this site and adapt it to suit your group |
