Activities

Country house "Los Pinos" is located in the mountain foothills with a large network of paved country roads and mountain dirt roads which are popular for both road cycling and mountain biking among professionally training athlets as well as amatures. The foothill location makes it a perfect base for hikers and rock climbers. Alfonso XIII, a large and beautiful mountain lake, is 10 min away and river Segura is 30 meters below the house. They offer plenty to do for those who like fishing, kayaking, white water rafting and simply for the people who like exploring natural beauties.

The Cieza town centre is few minutes away and it offers a lot of traditional activities such folk festivals during national and local fiestas. Particularly magnificent fiestas with grand processions, outdoor concerts and theme markets occur over the Christmas time (Navidad) and Easter (Semana Santa). The local Cieza fiesta happens over the last week of August and, in addition to the concerts and festivals, features several bull-fighting events at the Plaza de Torros with invited celeberty bullfighters. There are plenty of good reustaurants to go out ranging from tapas-style to really top class murcian cuisine. There are also beautiful historical buildings and museums, in particular la Basílica de la Asunción (s. XVIII), el Santuario de la Virgen del buen Suceso, el Balcón del Muro, y la antigua fortaleza (s. XV) which can be explored along the Ruta Urbana.

Many attractions can be found in a nearby town of Calasparra , the capital of fine paella rice and a vibrant centre for outdoor activities. The famous wine producing region of Jumilla is half an hour away. There you can taste and buy good wine at affordable prices. Also half an hour away are natural spas of Archena with relaxing pools, currents and bubbly jets, massage and individual therapy treatments. And, of course, you are only half an hour away from magnificent Murcia and an hour away from the beach.

Golf

There is a nice golf course in Molina de Segura some 25 min from the house. There is a golf course under construction in Cieza. See this website for information about all the golf courses in Mircia region.

Explore millenia of History

House "Los Pinos" is few minutes away from "Yacimiento de Almadenes", a collection of cave paintings of Paleolític and Neolític periods. Visit cave El Arco (29 figures), Las Cabras (4), o Cueva Jorge (2).

Also close to the house is "Medina Siyasa", an important archaeological excavation that has already revealed 18 andalusian houses of XII and XIII centuries. For details, see the webpage of The Museum of Siyâsa

Canyon Almadenes

El cañón de Almadenes, is several kilometers from the house "Los Pinos". It is a 150 deep and 4 km long natural reserve declared Espacio Natural Protegido. A sheer drop of water of the Quipar river is contained by a dam that contains a hydroelectric generation.

This route starts in the rice fields of Calasparra preceeded by an archeological zone in the cave "los Monigotes" containing paintings of the Neolitic through the Bronze ages.

El Cañón is used for diverse adventure sports such as the whte water rafting and speleology (exploring caves).

Fishing and Kayaking

Fishing is a very popular on the river Segura and lake Alfonso XIII. Another fun activity is kayaking. Please consult these places to make arrangements that suit you.

Hiking, mountain biking and Rock climbing

Los Pinos house is in a prime situation for hiking and rock climbing. Some footpaths start nearly from your doorstep, whereas to reach the other trailheads would take you a short drive or a bike ride. You might like to consult the book Senderos de Cieza, (Hikes of Cieza) published by CAM.
