McCollam's Bar Cushendall

The Home of Traditional Music in the Antrim Glens

McCollam's friendly pub in Mill Street Cushendall is where all the tourists make for in search of authentic Irish traditional music and singing. Every Friday night throughout the year, and on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays in Summer, you may meet the cream of the local musical talent: fiddler Dominic McNabb, accordionists James McElheran and Leo Brown, banjoists PJ Hill and Alex Higgins, plus many fine singers including Caitlin McElheran and Charlie McDonnell (whose tape is available from Glens Music) McCollam's Bar

Bar Staff

McCollam's is also known locally as "Johnny Joes" or just affectionately as "Joe's", after its former owner Johnny Joe McCollam. The present proprieter is Mr. Joe Blaney who enthusiastically encourages the many musicians and singers who beat a track here every week. Here is Joe Blaney with his cheerful barmaids Anne and Edith.

Johhny Joe's has four main rooms: the Bar, the Kitchen, the Parlour and the "Back Room" which is accessed via a covered yard. The building is very old and the internal decor has been kept in the old-fashioned style in sympathy with the structure - an excellent ambience for traditional music! This is the Parlour, and a fine session is in full swing. Musicians: Ciaran Dempsey (piano), Dominic McNabb (fiddle), PJ Hill and Alex Higgins (banjos). Partially hidden: Jas McElheran & Leo Brown (accordions).
