The idea was to stick a digital camera on a radio controlled plane and
take some photos from the air - cheaply
Maplin had a small, light digital camera on sale for £15 - I could build the interface to trigger the shutter
from the throttle servo myself using a PIC uChip from my junk box and had an old radio controlled plane looking for a new purpose in life.
So, total project cost £13 (using a £2 off voucher at Maplin), plus a few evenings building the interface
and writing the micro controller code - it doesn't come much cheaper than that !
The Camera
Here's what you find inside the camera
Not much inside. Like many digital cameras this one keeps turning itself off after 20secs of no use - pressing the
shutter was not enough to wake it up.
This meant as well as 'pressing' the shutter from the little controller board it was also necessary to 'press'
the mode button 5 times at least once every 20 secs - this cycled the camera through all its modes and returned it
to the original one, and meant that the camera would stay awake for a further 20 secs.
