The Art of Noise

Sheppard's Bush

At last the 14 year wait is over, The Art Of Noise finally play live in England again.

With the doors opening at 7pm the quest to get to the front is on, once there the wait begins, the rumor is that they will take to he stage at 8.30pm. Playing over the speakers is 'Love Action' by the 'Human League', someone must have pressed the repeat play button on the cd for it becomes really annoying to hear it play about eight times in a row, suddenly somebody changes track half way through the next playing much to the crowds delight. further 80's tracks are then played from Howard Jones and Starship. At 8.00pm activity begins on stage and a DJ comes out and starts playing Garage music, nobody that I can see is overly impressed by this after about 20 minutes of this a few people have started nodding their heads to the beat, or maybe they were just vibrating from the massive amount of bass being passed through their bodies, moments later a cry a "Please stop!" gets ignored, it seems that perhaps that the DJ is the only one enjoying the music. 8.30pm comes and goes and the DJ is still playing, then about ten to nine he packs up and the stage crew move in to do a final sound check, the crowd is well aware of this a cheer. At 9.00pm the art of noise finally appear, and the action can begin.

Paul Morley steps to mic holds up a hammer, the audience cheers, then he informs us of lot of things the the letter A stands for. The band plays tracks from seduction before launch into a funky version of 'Moments in love', the singer is real little bundle of energy and talent, she bounces around the stage and has teh ability to switch between singing operatic tracks like 'Il Pluere' and 'Born on a Sunday' and the electronic type vocals of moments. Paul manages to take the piss out 'Steps' with great amusement. Without a rapper on stage when metaforce was played one wondered who would take up the vocal, Trevor Horn switched from playing bass to do the rap, much to the surprise of some including myself.
After waiting 14 years, just over an hour on stage plus one encore didn't seem enough, I would have stayed all night, and the crowd definately wanted more. Sense decrees that this gig should be released a live album and video.
Come on guys don't leave it so long for another show.

Shamelessly lifted from another site but seeing as it's got me in it (the guy in the white shirt behind the red taxi on the left) and he put my picture on the net without my permission I see no reason not to put it on my site as well
