Please support Margaret Watson's petition to give families of homicide victims the legal right to formally challenge false information published as fact about homicide victims at the hands of convicted murderers and irresponsible journalists, by amending the UK defamation legislation to include families of homicide victims.

Our petition to Government to increase the 15-year minimum prison term starting point for murder, and for a zero-tolerance approach to ALL violent crime, has now closed.  The response from Government will be posted here when received.  Huge thanks to everyone who supported our petition by signing and spreading the word x 

 

In November 2007 in response to our Murder Sentencing Campaign the Ministry of Justice stated -

"...The Government does not currently plan to increase the minimum starting point of fifteen years for murder..."

We believe that the fifteen years starting point for murder - the most serious of crimes - MUST BE INCREASED TO AT LEAST 25 YEARS.

We continue to campaign for this increase, our Petition to government to increase the number of years murderers spend actually in prison expires on 05 September 2009...

Jack Straw has just announced that the sentencing for murder with a knife is to be reviewed to bring it in line with gun murders, this seems to be following the great efforts by the Kinsella family but we have been campaigning for an increase for ALL murders since Buster Knight was fatally stabbed, age just 16 years, in 2006.

This is excellent news but only a review, please contact Jack Straw and demand it actually happens, and for all murders not just those committed with a knife.
