YEAR 2000 TRIP REPORTS.
21/08/2000
Roaring Hole, Chapel-le-Dale.
Present: Ste Myers and Scott Heyden.
Weather: Warm & Sunny.
When we left Darlington at 7a.m. the fog was lying thick all around, and it didn't start to clear until we were well past Hawes.
By the time we reached the Hill Inn the sun was out and was burning up us and the fog fast.
Inside Roaring, it was much cooler and we made fast progress through the boulder chokes, the water levels were sporting enough to make sure we got a lung full of water if we tried to talk or look up while we were passing the chokes.
We had planned to turn back at the bottom of the 3rd pitch, but we got mixed up with our position and turned back at the beginning of stream passage.
We were back on the surface just after 11a.m., so we decided to have a quick look in Great Douk Cave.
Ste said he was glad of a easy trip after spending Sunday digging at the new cave with Tony and Barry.

Marble Steps.
Present: Ste 'The Sandwich Man' Myers, Tony Myers & Barry Shafto.
Weather: Overcast but warm.
The Mohole has vanished.
It started out a cracking Sunday morning as we walked up Turbary Road track to go to The Mohole.
I knew we would have no problem finding it because we had a g.p.s. navigator and Tony & Barry had done it twice before, how wrong I was.
We looked up and down, high and low, left and right, and in every nook and cranny but we could not find The Mohole.
We had got sick of looking and the day was wasting away, so we headed for the large clump of trees which we could not miss and did Marble Steps instead.
As it was dry we descended via the Wet Route for as far as we could, which was not very far as we only had enough rope for The Mohole, it was also getting late so we made for home.

Hurnell Moss Pot, Gaping Gill.
Present: Ste 'The Sandwich Man' Myers & Scott Heyden.
Weather: Overcast but warm.
What a difference a day makes, their was no sign of the flood waters that had blocked a lot of the road's in the dales a day earlier (as reported by Tony Myers who had been called out by Swaledale FRO for a fell rescue).
We planned to make our was to Hurnell Moss via Clapdale Drive & Trow Gill, but we had just reached the lake when some friendly locals pulled up in a Landrover pickup and offered us a lift (thanks very much) as far as Ingleborough Cave, which took a lot of effort out of the walk and considerably reduced the time it took us to get there.
We took a few minutes to have a nose around the YRA dig in the next shake hole over.
As water levels weren't to bad we rigged the Posieden pitch using a 'Y' hang and a deviation to get us down to Posieden ledge where we traversed out and rigged a 'Y' hang to descend the remainder of the pitch.
Once at the bottom we had a quick look around and took some photos before making a quick exit.

Alum Pot - Dolly Tubs Route Via The Bridge.
Present: Ste 'The Sandwich Man' Myers & Tony Myers.
Weather: Sunny then Rainy.
We set off from Darlington at 7.00am, we arrived at Alum pot lane at 8.15am.
We noticed small amount of water in a normally dry delve so we new to expect a wet trip, when we got to the cave we where surprised to find low water conditions we made our way down to the Dolly Tubs pitch, I rigged a different route to normal using a traverse halfway down.
We rigged the Greasy Slab next and noticed we where a rope short we proceeded down and decended the next pitch from the bridge, that was the last rope so we made our way out.

22/05/2000
Rumbling Hole, Leck Fell.
Present: Ste 'The Pie Man' Myers & Scott Heyden.
Weather: Cool with some showers.
We left Darlington at 6:30 to avoid most of the early morning traffic, as we reached the dale's the rain clouds were low in the sky and we passed through several showers.
The worst of the weather seemed to be behind us by the time we reached Leck Fell and the sun was breaking through.
We were glad to get out of the car (due to the rancid smells that kept appearing) and down the hole, we choose to rig the alternative (as described in C.N.C.C. rigging guide 2) using the deviation.
The first rope ran out at the end of the traverse to the second 'Y' hang, but a 20 in my bag finished the first pitch.
We completed the rest of the cave quite quickly, only stopping to take a few photo's (these should be added in the next 3 -4 weeks).
We were back out in 4 hours, so we headed off for a cup of tea and a butty in Inglesport.

Rift Pot, Marble Steps.
Present: Ste 'The Pie Man' Myers & Scott Heyden.
Weather: Warm & sunny.
The weather was bright & sunny up in the Dales, which was quite unusual for a Bank Holiday Monday.
We reached the entrance of Rift around 9 o'clock, and rigged the first pitch quickly so we could get away from the nasty smell and swarm of fly's that were gathering around the corpse of a Sheep that was in the shake hole by the entrance.
The crawl was pretty dry and being the fool's that we are, we proceeded in full S.R.T. kit.
Progress was pretty fast, only having to stop a couple of times to free snagged rope bags which we were dragging behind us.
From the ledge, at the bottom of the second pitch we decided to descend via Route 66.
Once at the bottom we spent some time exploring and taking Photo's (to be added when we finally manage to finish the film).
The journey out was pretty uneventful, Ste deciding to remove his S.R.T. kit for the crawl and then demonstrate how fast he could free climb the entrance pitch, leaving me to drag the rope bags out.
On the surface the day was noticeably warmer, thus increasing the smell and the amount of fly's on the corpse.

Tathams Wife Hole.
Present: Ste 'The Pie Man' Myers & Tony Myers.
Weather: Variable, warm, sunny & rainy.
We made the mountainous climb up White Scar cliffs with heavy bags and lots of rests.
We located the hole very quickly and made a good start down the cave, their was only a small amount of water running though the cave considering the amount of rain we've had lately.
We reached the duck below the ramp, but it was sumped and we where out of ropes.
So we made our return to the surface and back to the car, we then drove to Alum Pot where we were surprised to find the car park nearly empty.
We had a good look across the moor and found some caves to explore at a latter date.

17/04/00
Bar Pot/Gaping Gill Main Chamber.
Weather: Misty & Raining.
Present: Ste Myers & Tony Myers.
We set off from the car on the long haul up to Bar Pot in good time (a club record).
After rigging the first pitch and abseiling down without any problems, we proceeded to the fine 35 meter second pitch, abseiled down and made our way to Gaping Gill's Main Chamber.
Once their we took some photos and explored the South East Passage and Old East passage before making our way back to the surface and starting the long (but this time much easier) haul back to the car.

Mine explorations in Teesdale.
Present: Ste 'The Pie Man' Myers, Tony Myers & Barry Shafto.
Weather: Cold & Windy.
The weather was cold and shitty on the Teesdale fells as we walked ten foot from the road to the covered mine shaft, we then rigged what turned out to be a three hundred footer with one hundred and fifty foot of rope.
Barry abseiled down to have a look and decided it would not stretch and came back up, we then found another shaft and all abseiled down on to a very smelly maggot and Bluebottle ridden dead sheep and explored the mine, we found another two shafts, one was blocked and the other was another monster.

13/03/2000
Short Drop Cave/Gavel through trip.
Present: Ste 'The Pie Man' Myers & Scott 'Sugar Man' Heyden.
Weather: Cool & very misty.
The first trip since last August for me and the first of the New Year for Ste.
After struggling through the mist to find Gavel we rigged the entrance pitch and the Eco traverse and returned to the surface.
We then struggled back through the mist back to Short Drop Cave to complete an easy through trip.
