1999 TRIP REPORTS.

20/09/99

Lost John's Cave.

Present: Ste Myers & Scott Heyden.

Weather: Very windy and Very Wet.

The planned trip down Gavel, Leck Fell was abandoned due o the adverse weather conditions, so the easiest option was Lost John's.

The entrance water conditions weren't too bad, so we descended via No-1 Hole, down to Dome junction and on down Candle, Shistol to Battleaxe Traverse.

We decided not to descend Valhalla, as the water levels below were quite high.

26/07/99

 Penyghent Pot.

Present: Ste Myers, Tony Myers & Scott Heyden.

Weather: Hot & sunny.

When we set off for Penyghent Pot we knew that we would only make it as far as Myers Leap in the time we had available.

But an early start was ruined by me realising that I had forgotten to bring any boots, which left us in Ingleton at 7:30 a.m. trying to buy some.

From Ingleton we went to Settle, where a helpful local directed us towards Settle Coal which was the only place open before 9:00.

After purchasing some boots we proceeded to Dalehead House with the permit and then onto Brackenbottom to park the car.

It was 10 a.m. before we reached the entrance and even moving at a fare pace we still only reached Coffin pitch before we had ran out of time and turned back.

We look forward to our next visit, hopefully getting a bit further.

21/06/99

 Alum Pot.

Present: Ste Myers, & Scott Heyden.

Weather: Odd sunny spells with light rain mid afternoon.

Due to a report of high water levels from Tony Myers who'd been digging in the dales on Sunday afternoon we decided to cancel the planned visit to Washfold Pot and do a drier option.

Alum Pot lane was totally empty when we arrived unlike the water levels in Diccan.

We quickly descended down the Dolly Tubs across the Bridge and down in to Diccan where the water was pounding down.

On the way out we decided to also descend the Southeast Route as far as the Bridge, but first we had to contend with the six minibus loads of school kids that we encountered on the way out.

Back at Alum Pot lane you couldn't move for minibuses, kids and swarms of flesh eating midges that covered our body's as we got changed.

06/06/99

Providence Pot / Dow Cave Through Trip.

Present: Ste Myers, Tony Myers & Scott Heyden.

Weather: Sunny, with light rain through the day.

The phrase NEVER AGAIN was being shouted by two thirds of the party as we exited Dow cave.

The trip was going well until one party member became stuck for a short while in a rift, 45 minutes later he was stuck again this time for quite a bit longer, during this time another member of the party had a lamp failure.

When we left Dow cave, after 4.5 hours we'd had enough.
