Think about this for a minute and then ask yourself what you would do. During a youth football match which you are in the middle an incident occurs where the ball is kicked up field from the goal area towards the centre circle where two players challenge for the ball, both go to ground one gets up and chases the ball the other stays down you watch the game for a few seconds and the player stays on the ground, You blow the whistle and stop play call on the trainer to attend to the injured player. On comes the trainer but so does the manager who then refuses to leave the field of play until he has surveyed the injury. What would you do?

How many referees do you know that have given up the whistle and do you know why? Every year we lose a percentage of referees through retirement, ill health, moving home changing job etc. Etc. How many pack up because something has happened during a match or after a match and the referee feels that he has had enough. But, what do we as a refereeing community do about it. Probably nothing at all. The referee feels out in the cold without any help. That's where your local Branch is helpful because you can discuss the problem and guess what ? Other referees have more than likely had the same problem and felt the same but once you have brought talked about your problems then you may find that other referees felt just like you so make a date and come to the Branch meetings where you are among friends and colleagues
