I arrived in UK from Penang, Malaysia on December 18 1970. It was cold & foggy when I landed at Stansted Airport and was met by a British Consul representative who kindly transported me to St. Albans, Herts. I qualified as a registered psychiatric nurse in 1974 at Hill End Hospital. I then worked for a year in London at the famous Maudsley Hospital before gaining my promotion to a charge nurse in Derby. Over the years I had changed directions in my employment and also looked at other professions. In the 90's I also studied accountancy in my spare time, gaining the Part 1 in Certified Accountancy (ACCA). I then did a 3 yr Nursing degree course in 2 yrs, gaining a BSc (Hons). In between, I had also been a shopkeeper, market trader, acupuncturist and a police officer with the Derbyshire Constabulary (1979-81). In 1985, I went to Norwich as a night Senior Charge Nurse. I was there until 2001 when I returned to Ipswich, Suffolk to work on a forensic psychiatric ward. I have been blessed with a lovely family. My wife is a nurse. Our son is a Sales Director (Spas) for Six Senses Resort & Spa, based in their headoffice in Bangkok and our daughter is a medical student at Queen Mary (University of London). The photos: left ... as a very active scout in my school days; middle ... 'just like heaven' on top of the French Alps; right..when I first arrived in St Albans in 1970.
