Control Line flying is a part of the aeromodelling hobby which has faded over the years, I guess due to reducing price of radio gear.

In years gone by the idea of radio control was dismissed out of hand as far to expensive but that is quite different today.

There is still a place for control line flying it and it can be extremely good fun.

Control line aircraft use wire line, to control the movement of the aircraft. These lines are connected at one end to a handle which is held by the pilot and the other ends are connected to the model. The model flies around the pilot on the end of these lines in a circular fashion. The pilot can control up and down movement of the model by moving the handle which operates the elevators in the aircraft. A third line can be used to control the throttle but this is a rare feature in the UK. Control line is an inexpensive way to start aero modelling as the only requirements are a handle a set of wires and a model with a small diesel engine.

C/L flying takes on many forms like aerobatics, combat, scale , team racing and speed.
